Dahl’s publisher was going to do the same in Norway: The offensive “tjukk” (fat) was going to be changed to the less offensive(?) “enorm” (enormous), the offensive “stygg” (ugly) with “ekkel” (disgusting). I thinks those translations are rather 1:1, and you too can see the absurdity of it, like that a short and fat person could never be enormous, and that disgusting is a much much worse worse than plain ugly. The Norwegian publisher didn’t have sensitivity readers they just cooked together some alternations, just to show they’re following the trends, pure empty virtue signaling.

The explosion of public outrage was massive and instantaneous. Suddenly it was all over, for a couple of days it looked like it was all Norway was talking about. Unexpected alliances were made: People who went to The School of Life, and who’d be against any changes anywhere ever, fighting side by side with body positivity activists, yelling in unison “We’re fat, we’re not enormous!” It was beautiful to behold!

The publisher was shamed into the complete reversal, the common sense has, for once one, won, we won, Dahl won, everybody won! Apart from all those women dreaming of a career in a specific niche industry, my heart goes out for my sisters, I do hope they can find employment in a certain factory in Britain, known for not discriminating against female Oompa-Loompas…
